Negative and Positive Rules

The two words positive/good and negative/bad, which we had been using casually until now, sometimes had their meanings reversed by the negative and positive results of coronavirus. This served as a catalyst, making us even more conscious that two contrasting phenomena can be inverted without any clear boundary between them.

This exhibition, titled "Negative and Positive Rules," consists of works by Katagiri and Gleichenia, who are expanding the range of their expression through diverse techniques.

Beginning with Katagiri's sculptural works from the "Concave" series that use molds—which are crucial in the molding process of sculptural works yet never seen—as supports, the numerous works using multi-block techniques with themes of silhouettes and traces remind us of the importance of capturing the subtleties of things. Gleichenia will present jewelry works that focus on phenomena and details that would normally be omitted, using expressions and techniques with wood, crystal, and glass, including the pin brooch "OFFLINE" inspired by the blank spaces created through spelling out letters.

Slowly and carefully scooping up the expressions of things that exist quietly. Positive and negative, concave and convex, + and −. We hope this will be an opportunity to contemplate the appeal of continuing to transform as if the boundaries between them dissolve, without being dominated by either set of values.
