Gleichenia presents a solo exhibition exploring how glass and soap — two materials we encounter daily — emerged from coincidences shaped by time, people, and nature.

Approximately 4,000 years ago, beach sand grains and plant ash combined and solidified in fires lit by the Sumerians, marking the accidental beginning of glass. Similarly, soap developed from animal and plant fats combined with soda ash accumulated in rivers over extended periods. Both materials were born from the same elements — fire, sand, and water — in different places and eras.

The exhibition features pate de verre glass jewelry, SOAP objects, and collage works by Kanako Ikegaya, all inspired by these transformation processes. The works contemplate how the most ordinary materials in modern life originated from accidental chemical reactions in distant times and places — a reflection of the Japanese concept of もののあわれ (mono no aware), the awareness that even the most enduring things began as fleeting accidents.
